Europe’s capitals - open-air photo exhibition

From mid-April to the end of May 2007, people in the Dominican Republic will be able to visit all 27 EU capital cities in an afternoon.

From mid-April to the end of May 2007, the Parque de la Independencia in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo will host an open-air exhibition of photos of the 27 EU capitals to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome.

The exhibition will be formally opened by Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner and the Dominican Minister of Culture, Jose Rafael Lantigua, on the 19th of April. Some 400 guest are expected to attend an open air reception following the inauguration at the Parque, including members of the Latin America delegations attending the EU-Rio Group Ministerial meeting held at the time in Santo Domingo.

The exhibition will comprise 138 laminated panels with photos and information displays. The event will be both cultural and educational, providing information about not only the Treaty of Rome but also about the Cotonou (ACP-EU) agreement, the cooperation programme between the EU and the Dominican Republic and the economic partnership agreement under negotiation with the Caribbean region.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue and a publicity and promotion campaign targeting schools. In this way, the event will reach some 500 000 people directly, many of them youngsters, and many more through media coverage, brochures and the catalogue.
