The Europe prize for journalists is open to all Brazilian Journalists publishing on European Union related themes. The contest will select the three best journalistic pieces circulating in Brazilian media in the period between January 1st and May 15th. The categories are TV, radio and written press.
The Prize intends to raise awareness among Brazilian journalists of EU affairs and, as a result, inform the Brazilian public thus contributing to a better understanding of Europe by Brazilians. The prize covers the national territory.
The selection of the pieces will be done by a commission composed by the Ambassadors of Germany and Portugal (2007 EU Presidencies), the Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Brazil, a representative from the National Federation of Journalists (FENAJ) and from the Communications Department of the University of Brasília.
The winning journalists will be awarded a one-week trip to Brussels and to the EU institutions where they will have the opportunity to further develop their knowledge on the EU and possibly produce new pieces.
The announcement and the award of the prize will be done in a public ceremony integrated in the European Film Festival of Brasília and the winning pieces will be posted in the Commission website.
