European week, celebrating half a century of peace, prosperity and partnership between Europe and America
18-31 March 2007 in Washington will be European Week to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. A variety of events reaching the widest possible audience, all coordinated by the EU Commission’s delegation, will be hosted by European embassies in Washington, while consuls in other US cities, and EU centres of excellence, universities, institutes, and local communities around the country, will be contributing to an integrated programme of celebration.
The theme of the week will be European unity and the fruits of the successful transatlantic relationship between Americans and Europeans. The focus will be on the historic ties between the EU and the US, highlighting half a century of cooperation. The European Union celebrating 50 years of Peace, Prosperity, and Partnership will be a recurrent theme in speeches and public addresses throughout the year.
