A change for the better
CoR promotes mobility management initiatives
Conference
Innovative solutions to traffic problems, green technologies and sustainable transport are the discussion themes of the workshop “A change for the better”. People from all over Europe will share experiences and exchange ideas on how to promote the use of bicycles, public transport or car-pooling in urban areas.
Representatives from the cities that in 2006 proposed the best projects in the field of sustainable urban transport will present their success stories. Mr Stavros Dimas, European Commissioner for the Environment, will open the two-day event and present the awards at the ceremony honouring the three cities that showed the strongest commitment in promoting sustainable mobility.
Citizens and representatives of cities or private organisations will meet business leaders and regional representatives from all over Europe in an innovative, creative and process-oriented setting. The workshop is part of the European Mobility Week Campaign 2007, an awareness-raising campaign aimed at combating climate change and promoting sustainable modes of transport.
The European Commission launched the first mobility campaign in 2002 as an active way to encourage the use of environmentally-friendly modes of transport. The last mobility week took place in September 2006 and involved more than 1300 cities from 38 countries.
