Official launch of the sailing boat Treaty of RomeOther
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the association Sail for Europe has been busy restoring the sailing boat Treaty of Rome, registration number EUR 1, which took part in the around-the-world race 30 years ago. Visitors will be able to view the boat and are also invited to support its forthcoming tour of Europe. To mark the 20th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, a small sailing boat named Treaty of Rome, registration number EUR 1, had participated in only the second ever around-the-world race. On board was Europe’s first sporting crew, skippered by the Belgian Philippe Hanin. After 119 days and 19 hours of racing, Treaty of Rome finished in third place. The echoes from this dazzling feat rang out long and loud. Now, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty, the association Sail for Europe has restored the vessel and invites you to view it and support its forthcoming tour of Europe. Highlights include: - 11.30 hrs: showing of the film "Treaty of Rome, 50 years of European construction, 30 years of navigation…", produced by Sail for Europe and compiled mainly on the basis of archive footage; - sneak preview of blow-up photos of Treaty of Rome’s 77-78 around-the-world race, sponsored by commissioner Figel and Mr Delebarre, President of the Committee of the Regions; -14.30 hrs: live broadcast of races from the America's Cup. The Treaty of Rome will be open to the public throughout the day. |
