Erasmus students celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome

Participants attending the annual meeting of the Erasmus student network, academics, cultural figures and political representatives will be celebrating together the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome.

In 2007, the EU is also celebrating a milestone for the Erasmus programme. This EU-funded programme, one of the best known in Europe, turns 20 this year.

More then 1.5 million students have so far benefited from Erasmus grants. The programme is designed to encourage student and teacher mobility and to promote transnational cooperation projects between universities across Europe.

Organised during the six months of Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the EU by the German Embassy in collaboration with the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic, the event aims to mark the contribution of European Integration to educating young people. The celebration is also designed to raise awareness about the importance of intercultural exchanges.
