VII European Week

In the context of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome and the celebration of Europe Day (9 May), Sitges goes once again for bringing Europe and its citizens closer together and in organising the seventh  European Week with the main aim of citizens taking an active interest in the proceedings and participating fully in contributing to the process of European construction.

Some events will be taking place in parallel around Catalonia. Sitges believes that municipalities have an important role to play in the promotion of Europe and its construction process.

  • 2007/04/26: Opening Ceremony of the European Week at the municipalities of Garraf (organized by the Sitges Town Council and Garraf Regional Council). The ceremony will be opened by Joaquim Millan, EU Sitges Councillor and General Secretary of the Catalonian Council for the European Movement, with the presence of Joaquim Llimona, President of the Catalonian Council for the European Movement. This will be followed by Agustí Fernández de Losada, Head of International Relations Services at Barcelona County Council and Anna Terrón, Secretary for the European Union. A presentation of the publication +Europa “10 questions and answers on the role that municipalities play in the EU” will take place by the author Cristina Pellisé and the ceremony will be closed by Jordi Baijet, Mayor of Sitges Municipal Council. The Ceremony will be visited by Maite Calvo, European Parliament Chief in Barcelona, and Manel Camós, Head of the European Commission Representation in Barcelona.
  • 2007/04/12 to 2007/05/03:VII Course on the EU, The main challenges presented by the EU.
  • 2007/05/04 and 2007/05/05: Readings of European talesat Santiago Rusiñoland Roig Reventós public libraries.
  • 2007/05/05: Publication of a special edition entitled ‘L’Eco d’Europa’ in the weekly newspaper Eco de Sitges.
  • 2007/05/06: European Day Concertorganised by the Young Musicians of Sitges (JJMM) at the “Saló d’Ór” of Sitges.
  • 2007/05/10: Party with a European themeat the school of CEIP Maria Ossó(Sitges). Entertainment from Titelles Vergès.
