London Festival of Europe

The festival sees as a series of public lectures and discussions, many of which will be free of charge. Contemporary Romanian video art will also be shown during the festival. Speakers come from across the continent, and from other continents.

The festival is an endeavour to show how wide-ranging the European questions of value are, and will become an annual event.

Brief Program of debates and lectures:

 Monday 19^th : Zygmunt Bauman lectures on ‘Making the Planet Hospitable to Europe’. To be followed by a public reception.

Tuesday 20^th : Contemporary Eastern European Art, with Sarah Wilson, amongst others.

Wednesday 21^st : The British media and Europe

Thursday 22^nd : European Social Models

Friday 23^rd : Europe and the Environment

Saturday 24^th : Chinese and European art, with Hans Ulrich Obrist and Simon Groom, amongst others.

Sunday 25^th : Keynote debate to mark the 50^th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. ‘European values and borders’, with Kirsty Hughes and Kalypso Nicolaidis, amongst others. To be followed by a public reception.

Monday 26^th : Peter Weibel on art and the nation

Tuesday 27^th : A European notion of ‘Hospitality’?, with Gianni Vattimo and others.

Wednesday 28^th : The importance of Multilingualism, with Gianni Vattimo and others.

Thursday 29^th : European and Chinese notion of personal identity, with Ci Jiwei and Nicholas Bunnin.
