One of the EU's distinguishing characteristics and most precious resources is its linguistic diversity.
To celebrate this, schools across Europe will be competing in a translation contest organised by the EU commission to promote language learning and the language professions.
On 14 November 2007, 17-year-old pupils throughout the EU will have a chance to take part in the competition.Their task will be to translate a text from any one of the EU's 23 official languages into any other.
